Bikepacking Basics and Eagle River Camping Trip

Join us at The Bicycle Shop on Thursday, May 25 and Wednesday, May 31 for two bikepacking clinics presented by Nicholas Carman and Lael Wilcox.

We’ll talk about how to plan routes and resupply; how to load your bike with racks, lightweight bags, and trailers; and what to think about when building a bike for a long trip. Ride your loaded bike to the event to share some of your personal bikepacking style. Whether planning for a short overnight trip or a tour across the continent, you’ll be sure to learn something new. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

On Saturday June 3rd, you are also invited to join us for an overnight group ride to the Eagle River Campground. We will meet at The Bicycle Shop on Northern Lights at 6PM and will plan to depart the shop at 6:30 to begin the ride out to Eagle River. We will immediately connect to the Chester Creek trail from the shop, and will pass Russian Jack Park on our way to the Glenn Highway Bike Trail. The total ride distance is 15 miles, each direction, and the ride is open to all riders. Kids are welcome, so hook up the trailer or Trail-a-Bike so the whole family can join! Bring sleeping gear and food for the night, bathrooms, tent sites, and picnic tables are provided at the group campsite. If you have any questions about the ride visit or call The Bicycle Shop on Northern Lights at 907-272-5219. This ride has been organized in conjunction with Adventure Cycling Association’s Bike Travel Weekend, an international initiative to inspire and empower more people to travel by bike.

Nicholas and Lael have been touring by bicycle for the last 9 years, and they split their time between bikepacking around the world and working at The Bicycle Shop on Northern Lights. Lael has also challenged herself in long-distance self-supported races like the Tour Divide and the Trans Am Bike Race.
