Lael Wilcox might have assisted you when buying a new bike this summer at the The Bicycle Shop on Northern Lights, or she may have helped you size a helmet and select a lock. She also holds the women’s record in two grueling self-supported long-distance races– the Tour Divide and the Trans Am Bike Race. When not racing or sponsoring community programs like Anchorage GRIT, Lael can be found traveling the world by bicycle. After nine years of world bike travel, Lael turns her attention this summer to her home state where she plans to ride all the roads in Alaska.
Join Lael on Saturday, June 24th at The Bicycle Shop on Northern Lights for a group camping ride to the Eagle River Campground as she begins her ride out of town. This mellow 15 mile ride is open to all riders. Bring a bike and some camping gear for the night. Stock up on supplies for dinner and breakfast. We will meet at The Bicycle Shop at 6PM and will plan to begin riding around 6:30PM toward our destination.
On Sunday morning, Lael will continue north over Hatcher Pass as the rest of us return to Anchorage.
Lael will be riding the new 2018 Specialized Diverge adventure road bike, a high performance road bike with clearance for tires up to 42mm (or 650Bx47mm) and with the groundbreaking FutureShock road suspension system. Her rides around Alaska will exceed 4,ooo miles through the remainder of the summer.
